Build and Design

Samsung galaxy f42 5G has a glass front, plastic frame, and plastic back. As its back is a finger magnet, it catches fingerprints frequently. It comes in two colors: matte aqua and matte black. The matte finish feels smooth and soft in hand, though it catches fingerprints, as we said above. So, it's better to use a back case.

On the front, you can see 6.60-inches (1080x2408) full hd+ resolution, a TFT 90 Hz display with a water drop notch which is quite a downside of this phone.

Samsung is known for providing its super AMOLED display even in its mid-range segment smartphones.

In this case, Samsung went just with a TFT display and a water drop notch, a trend of 2019 and 2020. It has big bezels at the bottom, which couldn’t give that immersive experience while watching videos and movies.

We also noticed that the middle section on the backside of the phone feels and sounds hollow. At the bottom, you can observe a 3.5mm headphone jack, a charging port, microphone, and speaker grills.

The left side of the phone has volume rockers and a power button mounted with a fingerprint sensor. You can see a dual sim tray on the right side with a dedicated micro SD card slot.

The performance of this device is average, as it lacks a Super AMOLED display and a powerful processor.

Samsung’s One Ui and 90 Hz display makes touch response smooth. You will not have any problem using this smartphone for daily chores. However, We tested some heavy and high-graphic oriented games and noticed frame drops and some lags.

Also, a slight warmth while playing heavy games like BGMI or COD. As we talk about the camera, the Samsung galaxy f42 5G comes with a triple setup camera with a primary 64MP+5MP ultra-wide+2MP depth sensor. And, front camera with 8 megapixels.

After comparing it with Samsung’s much more expensive M52, we found that its 64MP performed better. From dynamic ranges to details to exposure, the 64MP sensor stands superior. Though, M52 steps ahead in portrait shots.

Ultra-wide shots are not as impressive as compared to Samsung’s M52. Whereas the front camera is average, it struggles in low light conditions. And video is also not well stabilized. It feels shaky and not focused. The battery capacity is the USP of this smartphone.

A 5000 MAH battery will keep you awake for a long time. It will easily tolerate a day or two of moderate usage in a single charge.

But at this price range, a 15w charger doesn’t fit quite well. Because a user wants a good battery backup with fast charging. With the battery capacity of 5000 MAH, a 33-watt charger would have made it a great deal.

Final Opinion

Samsung galaxy F42 5G is a decent device with a decent processor and a big battery. We suggest that you can get much better options in this price range, whether in terms of display or processor.

With this device, Samsung has just focused on 5G, which is useless because countries like India and Nepal are far from 5G connectivity. So, if you’re not fascinated with 5G and Samsung's brand and UI, then you can go for other options in this price range.

We feel Samsung's this smartphone doesn’t stand still in this price segment.
